100th Post + Finding Your Personal Style
We did it. Somewhere between November and now, Inbetween Thoughts has managed to get over 6200 visitors, almost 100 followers between our various forms of social media, and now – 100 posts!
While I’d love to go on and on about how exciting it is to have reached this milestone (and it really is exciting or I wouldn’t have mentioned it!), I’d instead like to focus on a topic that I think is really important – and a fundamental reason of why this blog exists.
Style. It’s important. Obviously.
Sure, it’s nice to look cool and be super trendy. Fit in with the popular kids. Get those likes on Instagram. But that’s not what style is about.
I’m being honest. Style is not meant to exist for you to follow the trends just because they are trends. It’s about expressing yourself and showing the world who you are. And I understand that this can be hard. Sometimes we don’t know who we are and we don’t know what we’re comfortable in.
You don’t have to know who you are yet. The fun part about finding your style is exploring all the great options that are out there. Maybe dressing super casual ends up being your thing – graphic t-shirts and sweatpants and simple outfits. Maybe you end up being obsessed with florals. Or lace. Maybe you find that you like a more chic look, with modern cuts and neutral tones. All of these styles are wonderful!
There is no such thing as not being able to find something that works for you. Different pieces are made to flatter every shape and size. Every body is different – and you are rocking what God blessed you with! Keep an eye out for those pieces that work best for you. There are tons of guidelines (like this one) online that can help with advice!
Be bold. Step outside the lines that you would normally give yourself and try something different every now and then. I started trying out off-the-shoulder tops this year and just fell in love. Now I wish I could wear them all the time.
Remember, style doesn’t just tell others who you are. It helps you to feel comfortable in your own skin and raises your confidence. It doesn’t matter if it’s designer pieces or something comfortable that you got from Walmart. If you feel comfortable in it, you’re going to be more confident than if you were wearing something that dug into your ribs or wasn’t covering enough or just didn’t feel like it wasn’t right for you. I like to dress up and even though I don’t fit in with the people around me (believe me, I work in a super casual office), those are the days that I feel I’m at my best performance.
So go out and explore. Try on lots of clothes at different stores. Talk to the sales attendants and get their advice on pieces that would work for you. Mix and match. Find you in the clothes that you buy. Because what you wear is who you are and pretending to be a different person won’t do you any good.
Maybe we’re still figuring out this whole “adult” thing, but our small tribe here at Inbetween Thoughts has an idea of what personal styles fit us best. And we’re loving it. We hope that we’ll be able to help you – just a little bit – with advice on styles and fashion and all the fun things out there. We’ll even throw in a little bit of lifestyle tips too (don’t forget, after all, this is a lifestyle blog).
So, dear readers, tell us – how is your style journey going? Who are you now and who do you want to be? What is your favorite outfit? Share and comment down below – we are so looking forward to hearing about it!
Here’s to the next 100 posts!
