I suffer from terribly dry skin. I moisturize and I moisturize, but still my skin lacked lushness and looked like a cracked desert after applying foundation. I’ve tried so many products to alleviate the dryness that I now have a solid routine that hydrates my skin and prevents my foundation from drying into the crack of my skin. Lushness
A good rule of thumb: if your skin feels tight after washing you face, your face was is too harsh for your skin. In my case, this was every product I used, even the ones meant for dry skin. But currently, I’m using CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser face wash for normal to dry skin. I love how it feels. The formula is soft and dewy and I can tell my skin drinks it up. The product hydrates and cleans my face well. Although, to be fair, I’ve never had bad acne problems. A bar of soap would do just fine at tackling those few problem areas I have. But I can certainly vouch for the moisturizing side of this face wash: it works wonders!
I pair the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum and Estee Lauder Micro Essence Toner together as the toner sets my face up to absorb as much of the serum as possible. You can try this experiment at your local Sephora/Ulta: place the toner on the backside of only one of your hands. Then spray water on both hands. You’ll notice on the hand without tone, the water droplets roll down your hand, but the hand with the toner, the water stays put. This is what the toner does on your face. The serum is excellent at adding hydration and the tone helps lock it in. I fell in love with these products after only a day of using it because I noticed such a difference in how soft and supple my skin felt. Even my husband commented that day, “Your skin is glowing!” I highly recommend these products if you have dry skin. The only downside is that they are pricey. The toner is around $96 and the serum is $65. However the tone will last you 6 months and the serum, about 3 because it only takes a few drops of each to get the job done.
I’m currently using Estee Lauder Nutritious Vitality8 as my moisturizer. I apply this after the serum/toner duo. The formula is greasy, but it hydrates and soften my skin as well. Again, it’s pricey, but I only need a little to cover my whole face.
I’ve been dealing with my dry skin for years. I remember thinking when I was 18/19 that it was my foundation. But it was every foundation no matter how many different kinds I tried. When I discover moisturizing was a thing, I ended up trying so many, but all left me feeling greasy and couldn’t counteract the harsh face washes I had been using. The combination of products I mentioned above have worked wonders for my skin. My foundation no longer flakes off or dries out and I feel more confident in my makeup.
Now to find me some sunscreen that doesn’t dry me out and I’ll be set!
