The Start of Planning My Destination Wedding
As you may have read, my husband and I got engaged back in January. While we’re technically married already (hence why I said “husband”), we haven’t had an official wedding yet. Long story short, he’s military and we needed to get married ASAP as he was being stationed far away and I wanted to go with him; so we had a justice of the peace wedding.
We settled on a destination wedding at South Padre Island. We both have family there and we both love the beach so it felt natural to say our vows there. I have not yet booked a venue, but will be making a trip down there soon to do so. We don’t have a lot of time to plan; August is our desired month to have the wedding so I’m whipping things together as fast as I can.
But I can tell I have my work cut out for me.
I say this because four months to plan a wedding is not that long and even harder when I’m doing this without a wedding planner. But once I get the venue booked and a date set, I’m hoping everything will start falling into place. We already have an idea of what we want: a tropical theme, calla lillies galore, our ideal catering menu (tropical = fish!), and the smaller details.
For a better idea of what we’re wanting, here is our pinterest board.
Originally, we wanted burgundy and gold to be the colors, but we decided that it didn’t match the bright colors of the island. So aqua, gold, and white it is!
This ends the early stages of wedding planning. With my wedding planning book in one hand and my husband’s hand in the other, I have all that I need to plan the wedding of my dreams. Soon, these ideas will emanate out of my head and spring into reality. Stay tuned for updates (and wedding planning tips) as our big day approaches!
