Kat von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Review with Swatches: Lolita, Damned, and Exorcism

I have recently discovered matte lipstick.  Specifically Kat von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick.  I have been wanting to stray away from my usual dark red lipstick and go with a nude because everyone should have a classic and stylish nude when wanting to feel suave and sophisticated.  But I have been having trouble finding a good shade to match my skin tone (pale with golden undertones) and my naturally pink lips. I went to Sephora to test some nudes out and stumbled toward Kat von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks and decided to test out her current colors as I’ve been wanting to give them a try ever since I heard about the new shades that are coming out.

Lolita was my first pick and I fell in love with the color.  It adds the tiniest bit of color to my lips without being too bold; it’s the perfect shade for work when you want to go subtle and sophisticated or if you want to go extravagant with eye makeup without having too much heavy makeup everywhere.

After Lolita, I couldn’t help but try on the darker colors and found myself reaching for Damned.  Impressed with its near black intensity, and to satisfy my need to go even darker, it was added to my basket.

After I purchased Lolita and Damned, I ended up back at Sephora a few days later for another nude.  But I ended up going for Exorcism because apparently I can’t satiate my thirst for dark colors.  That and the fact that I couldn’t find an attractive nude that met my needs like Lolita did. Oh Lolita, you treat me so well. But hey, at least it strays from red with its deep purple tones.

As for my review of these lipsticks, I must say I love the color a lot.  It stays true to its name as it does stay put and I don’t need lip liner to line my lips because the applicator is smooth and can achieve tight, thin lines unlike ordinary lipstick.  Although, I must add that the lipstick doesn’t last throughout my meals so reapplication is a must after eating/drinking.  The lipsticks are quite drying and will sink into the creases in your lips.  Immediately after applying the color, I could feel the liquid hardening on my lips and I had to take a break from them because my lips have gotten quite chapped after daily use.  I recommend moisturizing your lips before application to prevent drying them out.  While I did moisturize, unfortunately I have very dry skin and my lip balm can only go so far.  But for $20 a pop, I believe these lipsticks are worth their price due to their intensity and staying power.  If you can handle the drying aspect, I would definitely recommend these lipsticks to you.

As a side note, these lipsticks are vegan and cruelty free!

As for the colors I chose:

Lolita: I believe this is a very well rounded nude that will suit nearly anyone.  It has a slight, pink hue with a tendency toward a muted purple, that will enhance your natural lip color regardless of its color.  Lolita will pair well with nearly, if not any, outfit.

Damned:  What can I say?  It’s nearly black.  It looks like a dark brown in the bottle, but it will come out looking black.  If black lips is your thing, but you don’t want to go with an intense true black, Damned is a good choice for you.

Exorcism:  Infused with a dark berry color, Exorcism is great for achieving a vampy look.  The deep purple leans more toward the blue side of the color spectrum as opposed to the red side, so if you have a golden/yellow undertone like me, this color will suit you well.  If you are pale with peach undertones this color would look good as well but will appear darker and may wash out your face.  It just depends on the look you want to achieve and what colors you’re comfortable rocking.  Exorcism is great at turning a day look into a night look.  If you’re hitting up the clubs/nightlife, Exorcism will set your makeup tone for the night and keep you looking mysterious and sexy even while you stumble home drunk.

Let’s also take a moment to appreciate the fact that two of the colors I chose are reminiscent of demons.  Sounds about right!

As for an official rating of Kat von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks, I give them 4/5 stars for their intensity, color, and staying power, but I dock a star for the super drying formula.   I do recommend these lipsticks!

See you next Wednesday!
